Quarterlife by Satya Doyle Byock is one of the most relatable books I have ever read as a young adult, and here’s why.
This is one of those books that provide a sense of validation, like an “oh, I’m not alone in this” moment that I desperately need during this time of my life. It tackles the topic of feeling lost in early adulthood, the transition of first having grading systems and guidebooks to base decisions on – and then all of a sudden being left alone in the wild.
This book helps me realize that there are some things that we have to find out for ourselves.
It also encourages the importance of self-discovery and listening to ourselves. And it’s not limited to our thoughts, but also listening to our bodies, our emotions and our values.
Overall, it is an eye-opening book as someone who’s currently in the stage the author is describing. While not everyone may agree with every single thing in this book, it makes some really good points about our relationship with ourselves and how it impacts the people in our lives as well.
